Prostate cancer screening: what the latest guidance says
The UK National Screening Committee has advised against routine prostate cancer screening for most men. It recommends regular screening only for men with a confirmed BRCA gene variant, due to concerns that current tests can lead to overdiagnosis and unnecessary treatment.
Abiraterone will be available on the NHS in England within weeks for men with high-risk prostate cancer that has not spread, following campaigning by patients and Prostate Cancer UK. Around 7,000 men a year could benefit, with the decision welcomed as a major step towards fairer access to life-extending treatment.
Women affected by back wall vaginal prolapse (rectocele), as well as family members and carers, are being invited to take part in Patient and Public Involvement for a new NHS research study. Participants will help shape the research by sharing their lived experience through document reviews and online discussions, with no medical or research background required. One in four children in England start school without being toilet trained, say teachersA recent survey of primary school teachers in England finds around one in four children starting reception are not toilet trained. This impacts learning as staff support children and the development of the affected children during their reception year.
